DepartmentofLabor - Department of Labor
The United States Department of Labor is a government office that is responsible
for regulating hourly wages, occupational safety standards, and unemployment
benefits. Although the Department of Labor is a federal office, many of the
individual states also have their own similar office.
The DepartmentofLabor was established in 1884 under then heading "Bureau
of Labor" in order to promote the welfare of the working individual, and
to improve his working condition as well as give him the opportunity for profitable
employment.
Their Website, dol.gov contains many interesting statistics, such as unemployment
rates and numbers of new jobs created. It is interesting to note that wages
in the United States rose over 4% last year, that is a great increase.
